Storm take Game One
Lauren Jackson (league MVP) had 23 points and a team playoff-record 17 rebounds to lead Seattle to an 82-74 victory over the Mercury.
Jackson, who was named MVP prior to the game, fell one rebound shy of her season high and had her double-double in the books with 3:15 left in the first half….Diana Taurasi, who averaged 22.6 points during the regular season, scored nine on 2-of-15 shooting.
Seattle kept the Mercury 25 points below their postseason scoring average. Phoenix averaged 93.8 points during the regular season.
Game 2 of the series is Sunday at Phoenix.

Seahawks finish pre-season (1-3)
Charlie Whitehurst threw for 210 yards and a touchdown in the first half while starter Matt Hasselbeck rested up for the season opener. Whitehurst hit three deep passes to Deon Butler, Golden Tate and Ben Obomanu against one of the few defensive starters in the game for Oakland, cornerback Chris Johnson…..Former Raider Louis Rankin also scored on a 99-yard kickoff return and Olindo Mare kicked three field goals for the Seahawks (1-3)….Receivers T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Deion Branch, linebacker Lofa Tatupu and defensive backs Marcus Trufant and Lawyer Milloy were among the Seahawks to get the night off….final roster cuts will be made Sunday, and the first game is next Sunday against the San Fransisco 49ers

T.G.I.F…LeBrons love for the Buckeyes/U.S.Open Brawl
LeBron James didn’t change all his teams this summer…..James posted on his Twitter feed Thursday that he’s considering going to Columbus, Ohio, on Sept. 11 to see the matchup between No. 2 Ohio State, his longtime team of choice, and No. 13 Miami.
And no, the former Cleveland Cavaliers star isn’t rooting for the Hurricanes. The NBA’s two-time reigning MVP wrote, ”O-State will prevail for sure. Will be exciting!”
Miami and Ohio State both opened their season with wins Thursday night. The Hurricanes beat Florida A&M 45-0, while the Buckeyes topped Marshall 45-7.
James worked out with the Hurricanes’ basketball team twice last week. He has an invitation to join Miami for any of its football games this season, and at least two Hurricanes, Jacory Harris and Damien Berry, sent James a note on Twitter asking him to attend the home opener.
”He’s down in Dade County now,” Berry said Thursday night. ”We’re going to try to change his mind and make him a Hurricanes fan.”
